Public Participation
Algonquin will construct and operate the proposed facilities. The company is working with all stakeholders in order to ensure that the project strikes a balance between the affected landowners, impacts to the environment, and constructability requirements, while meeting customer needs.
Because a goal of this project is to inform and consult with affected stakeholders early in the process, the proposed Ramapo Expansion Project will utilize the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (“FERC”) Pre-Filing Process. The FERC Pre-filing Process provides opportunities for stakeholders to identify and resolve concerns early in the project review prior to the formal approval process. During this time, Algonquin will request input from landowners, governmental agencies and other interested parties, and will work with them and FERC to address any issues. FERC will also issue a scoping period in which to collect public comments and concerns.
During the FERC review of the filing of Algonquin’s formal application, the FERC will seek additional public input on the proposed route, alternatives, and overall environmental impacts of the Project.
Open houses to introduce the project were held the week of December 12, 2005, and another open house will be held on March 15, 2006, and notification letters were mailed and newspaper notices were published in the affected counties.
