North Maxhamish Loop

  • Location: NW of Fort Nelson, BC (Horn River basin region)
  • Length: 37 km of 24" pipe
  • Projected Completion Date: Spring 2010, subject to regulatory approval

Increased producer activity in connection with the Horn River shale gas development in northeast British Columbia has resulted in increased demand for raw gas transmission and processing services in the Fort Nelson area. The proposed North Maxhamish Loop Project will enable the timely transportation of incremental raw gas production from the Horn River basin to Spectra Energy's existing Fort Nelson Processing Plant in accordance with the needs of our customers.

Spectra Energy proposes to build a new 24" pipeline that will be installed parallel to our existing 12" Maxhamish pipeline on the west side of the Horn River Basin. The proposed route will minimize the need for new land and potential effects on the environment and will generally follow the Liard Highway.

Subject to regulatory approval, construction is planned for the winter of 2009 and into 2010 with Maxhamish North in-service by Spring, 2010.
